Autun, city of Art and History
Autun is built right up the wooded hill of the natural park of Morvan, dominating the Arroux valley. Thanks to the forest surrounding Autun, the city has developed a furniture industry… but its great titles are older : isn’t it the “Soeur Emule de Rome” (sister of Rome) ?
From this prestigious age remain numerous and incredible vestiges : the ramparts, the Saint-André gate and the Arroux gate, which remained almost intact, the roman theatre, the Janus Temple… The Christian Middle Age has left the Saint-Lazare church erected in 1120, the diocese, the neighbourhoods with the narrowed streets and the half-timbered houses.
