This lake is artificial. It was created, in 1882, to supply water to the Burgundy canal. It also collects water upriver of Semur-en-Auxois, in order to avoid floods should the water level rise. The lake’s surface area is about 80 hectares and can contain 6 million m3 water.
A tank of drinking water
The lake of Pont also has a function as a reservoir. Indeed, since 1981,the date when the first drinking water production was put into service in Pont-et-Massène by the SIAEPA of Semur-en-Auxois, this resource has been exploited to provide water to 35 communes. Later on, the SIAEPA has created two (2002) then three (2007) filtration devices in order to treat the water turbidity of the Armançon. This way, the inhabitants of 56 member towns and about 15 neighbouring towns consume some very clean water. This consumption is about 4000 m3/j.
A 12km path and a beach
The lake is lined by a 12km path which allows walkers and fishers to discover this heritage known since 1944 for its incredible landscape.
