Nominated for a Molière in 2017 - Directed by Jean-Philippe Daguerre
This colourful adventure set in Naples is transported into the black and white world of Italian realist cinema. Through the sobriety of a fishing port where Scapin lures sardines and whales into his nets, the beauty of the 17th century transalpine costumes, reinterpreted by the fairy Catherine Lainard, adds a certain elegance to the visual of our Fourberies. Scapin has fun using the marine props on stage to pull off all his tricks: a bag of mussels for the bag scene, an oar as a staff, a net and a trident to transform Sylvester into a terrifying Poseidon...
The world of mime and commedia dell'arte is very much present, and we'll also have to rely on the relentless rhythm imposed by Molière's play and Jean-Philippe Daguerre's natural attraction for physical, generous actors to convey both the meaning and the sound of Molière's intelligent, carnal writing.
